ERM Glossary: Tier 1 capital

Tier 1 capital is a measure of a
bank’s financial strength defined by the regulator. It captures Core Tier 1
capital plus other Tier 1 securities in issue, but may be subject to deductions
in respect of material holdings in financial companies under e.g. current UK
interpretations of Basel capital accords.
