ERM Glossary: Expected Loss
[this page | pdf | references | back links]
The expected (credit) loss on an
instrument is the amount of loss that can be expected by the bank holding it (often
calculated in accordance with any applicable regulatory requirements). It is generally
calculated by multiplying the Default Frequency by the Loss Given Default and (if
the Loss Given Default
is expressed as a percentage) the Exposure at
Default.
