ERM Glossary: Downside risk

Downside risks are ones that that affect the enterprise’s total position in negative ways. ERM aims to take account of both upside and downside risk by creating opportunities for the firm’s business units to take advantage of upside risks as well as measuring, managing and mitigating downside risk.
