Competition & Markets Authority (2016)Retail banking market investigation: Final Reporthere

Summary (first paragraph)

"On 6 November 2014, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) board launched a market investigation into the supply of retail banking services to personal current account (PCA) customers and to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the United Kingdom (UK). An inquiry group of five independent members was appointed to conduct the investigation and publish this final report. Alongside this final report, we have published an overview document summarising our approach, our key findings and package of remedies."

Additional Nematrian Commentary

In this report the UK's Competition and Markets Authority indicates that it will introduce a number of potentially wide ranging changes to how retail and small business banking operates in the UK with the aim of enhancing competition. These changes may encourage some business activities to migrate from established banking firms to newer FinTech firms.
