Bauer College (2010k)Lecture Notes: Emerging Stock Marketshere

Summary (partial)

"International investors have always looked to the developing economies and their equity markets for investment opportunities. The colonization of America, a process that started 500 years ago, provides an early example of investing in foreign markets. Much later, almost 350 years later, English investors financed the development of public utilities, transportation, and other industrial sectors throughout America. War World I, the worldwide depression of the 1930s, and protectionist policies of several developing countries slowed down significantly the flow of capital from developed economies to developing economies. During the late 1980s and early 1990s, international investors started to show a renewed interest in emerging equity markets."
